Rawhide Ranch is managed and owned by 5th generation rancher David Holmgren, who has spent over 30 years raising 100% pure Longhorn Cattle. Rawhide’s livestock are raised on 520,000 acres of absolutely wild and wide-open rangeland located in west-central Nevada. They drink fresh, natural mountain spring water right from the source or from fresh deep-water wells. The cattle do not receive injections or vaccinations of any kind and are not doctored for any reason. They live in a natural environment where they are allowed to mature with little human intervention to an age where their protein is highly nutritious.
The Longhorn cattle have lived in one place their whole lives, born and raised on Rawhide Ranch, free upon the earth, completely natural, with no confinement, in a state of nature (no pastures or pens), where the soils and plants have never been worked or farmed by man. A truly unique place. Rawhide Ranch’s beef is full of real vitamins and minerals because the cattle are able to assimilate real vita-nutrients into their systems from a seasonal smorgasbord of 100’s of natural plants. On other ranches, feedlot and pasture/grass free-range cattle often do not have access to these kinds of healthy feed choices because they are simply not available to them. The soils upon which those grasses/plants grow are depleted in vita-nutrients and/or the pastures are often monocultures of only one type of forage.
Longhorn meat is naturally lean, tender and healthy. Additionally, and most interestingly, longhorn beef is high in Omega-3 fatty acids, CLA and very low in cholesterol and saturated fats. The cholesterol is less than even chicken or fish. Our beef is high nutrient beef, free-range, and we mean free-range. Rawhide Ranch’s Longhorn cattle drink fresh, natural mountain spring water right from the source or from fresh deep water wells. The cattle do not receive injections or vaccinations of any kind and are not doctored for any reason. The paleogenetics of these cattle are therefore preserved.
